Flautista de Jazz y ganador de un Grammy latino, con su sensual mezcla de música latina, jazz y sonido del pop, desde hace más de quince años.

Transformando las reglas de la flauta en un nuevo mundo musical, Torres ha establecido, prácticamente, un nuevo género de música popular.

Néstor Torres nació en Mayaguez, Puerto Rico en 1957. Empezó a tomar clases de flauta a los 12 años y luego ya formalizó sus estudios en la Escuela Libre de Música (eventualmente dirigida por la Universidad Inter.-Americana en Puerto Rico). A la edad de 18 años, se mudó a Nueva York con su familia y fue allí, como él mismo comenta, la primera vez que desarrolló sus primeras improvisaciones con la música del baile cubano la "Charanga". Néstor dice que las improvisaciones de la flauta, el enfoque de sus solos, es hacer a la gente bailar.

Néstor empezó a estudiar a la vez jazz y música clásica en "Mannes School o Music" en Nueva York y en el "New England Conservatory of Music" de Boston, entre otros lugares.

En 1981 se mudó a Miami con el sello discográfico Polygram, con quienes lanzó su disco "Morning Ride" en 1989. Pronto alcanzó su debut y se situó en el top de la revista "Billboard". Pero la mala suerte le llegó aproximadamente un año después cuando en un accidente le dejo en un estado muy grave durante bastante tiempo.

Néstor Torres empezó su largo proceso de recuperación y en 1990 lanzó su disco "Dance of The Phoenix". En 1994 grabó "Bruning Whispers" para el sello discográfico Sony. Su composición latina "Luna Latina" estuvo nominada para los premios Grammy en el año 2000. Un año después ganó el premio Grammy con "This Side Of Paradise". "Mi Alma Latina" es una recopilación de canciones clásicas latinas. El disco fue lanzado en el año 2002.

El debut de Néstor Torres con el sello discográfico "Heads Up" ha sido con " Sin Palabras" con canciones también clásicas dentro de la música latina como "Contigo Aprendí" o el éxito de Alejandro Sanz "Regálame la Silla Donde Te Espere" y otras nueve originales canciones. Han colaborado en este disco productores tan importantes como James Lloyd en siete de las canciones, Carlo Pennisi y Jimmy Haslip (del grupo Yellowjackets).

One of the musicians of greater prestige of the Latin jazz, Néstor Towers began in the world of music thanks to the stimulus of its ancestors. His father, the pianista well-known Puerto Rican Néstor Torres, gave a drum when fulfilling the five years to him. That was its first musical instrument and through him it took his first steps in the art. Besides to flatter his first instrument to him, his father also taught to him to listen to the music of Tito Bridge like the one of other important artists. In the same way, its progenitora initiated in the knowledge of the Latin rates and the classic pieces of universal music. Although it began touching the drum, when fulfilling the 13 Néstor years Towers son it changed the rhythmic sounds of the drum by the sweet and refrescantes sounds of flauta. It studied this wind instrument while it attended his studies in the schools intermediate and superior.

When culminating their preparatory degrees entered the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico. In the institution it completed his baccalaureate in Mu'sica and Pedagogía of Music. But its student day did not culminate there. Soon it was transferred to the city of New York. There of Music continued its training in classic music in the Mannes School and later in the New England Conservatory of Boston. During that time, also flauta learned the art to narrate histories with his; ability that got to practice at professional level. While it studied, Néstor Towers had the opportunity to touch in different bands. Among them with the group of afroantillana music Batacumbele in Puerto Rico, with Typical Ideal, Free Set, Orchestra Novel, the group of Joe Quijano and Charanga America. At the time of knowing on the African roots of Latin music, its passion to know on those cultures more took it to Suramérica to Africa and. In his trip by South America, it decided to remain in Colombia by more time. There first record production "Colombia in Charanga" recorded his, an anthology of folkloric songs to which it incorporated a base of afrocubanos rates. That first record work reached the position more number five of the lists of sold discs of the mentioned country.
